What to expect on
We believe a little hope and a lot of work can change the world. If you agree, and we hope you do, join us this summer for a volunteer and cultural immersion expedition in Lusaka, Zambia.
Your program fee includes the following:
Transportation to and from the Lusaka Airport
Simple family style meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Transportation throughout the expedition
Two (2) I Am Zambia T-shirts
I Am Zambia teams are diverse. We recruit volunteers of all ages and nationalities, which makes every team experience as unique as the people on it.
A cultural immersion experience is not a vacation...it’s better! And busier. Expect to be visiting, interacting with and working beside local Zambians all day, every day.
Caring is sharing. You'll be living and moving in close quarters with your fellow volunteers, so be prepared to share your room and bathroom with others on the expedition.
You’re responsible for your expenses, but we’re happy to help you coordinate your travel plans. We encourage volunteers from similar geographical areas to travel together.
Some volunteers opt to extend their trips so they can soak up more of Zambia’s culture and beauty. We can help identify excursions and connect you with other travelers.
TRAVEL & MEDICAL
Medical Evacuation Insurance is required for each volunteer. Travel insurance is optional, but recommended.
You’ll need to buy an entry Visa for either $50 (single entry) or $80 (double entry) and have a valid U.S. passport FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS beyond your departure date.
ADDITIONAL EXPENSES &
THINGS TO CONSIDER
Laundry service is available for approximately $4 per bag at any time.
Part of your program fee includes two (2) I Am Zambia T-shirts. These T-shirts are like a uniform, and we wear them every day but Sunday. You can order as many I Am Zambia T-shirts as you want; the prices are $15 for a T-shirt and $30 for a hoodie.
There are markets and street vendors where you can buy snacks and hand-crafted goods/souvenirs.
